SERVICES FROM OUR PARTNERS

We partner with many local agencies to provide substance abuse awareness and prevention programs. Listed below are some of our programs.

BOYS & GIRLS CLUB OF LEECH LAKE

Our mission at Boys & Girls Club is to inspire and enable all local youth, to realize their full potential as productive, responsible and caring citizens. We carry out this mission by implementing programs based on a youth development strategy that builds self-confidence, Self-Esteem, and fosters a sense of usefulness and influence.  We meet these objectives by our five program areas that include, education and career development, the arts and cultural enrichment, health and life skills, sports and fitness, service and leadership development. The Boys & Girls Clubs of the Leech Lake Area serve over 1200 members who are 6-18 years old during the after school and summer hours. Our Clubs are located in Cass Lake, Walker, Deer River and S. Lake, all in northern Minnesota.

Boys & Girls Clubs of the Leech Lake Area’s role in the Working Together Coalition is to build partnerships within the community to keep our youth active, healthy, and safe.  The Walker Unit offers its club for youth involved with Teens Leading the Way projects and offers a place to hold seminars and meetings for this group.  The Walker Unit also supplies program reports from their BGCA SMART Moves program in-kind.

S.M.A.R.T (Skills Mastery and Resistance Training) Moves – SMART Kids is a part of Boys & Girls Clubs of America’s SMART Moves; a nationally acclaimed prevention program for young people.  SMART Kids focuses on decision making and interpersonal skills, self-awareness activities to develop respect for one’s own body and the ability to handle feelings and healthy habits, while communicating age-appropriate information about alcohol and other drugs.  Start SMART and Stay SMART provides information and skills needed for youth to adopt the attitudes and behaviors of healthy lifestyles and positive character development.

With the help of the coalition the Club hopes to continue these programs and to work to build and expand on these programs to reach even more youth to reduce the use of alcohol, tobacco, and other drugs in our communities. www.bgcleechlake.com
